Rei Kawakubo at the Met Museum

Many things have been said about this show, and if you want to read a review, just google it as there are tons online. One of the better ones is by Cara Kelly of USA Today (click here), simply because of its readability. Its hard enough that the concept of the show lies on the esoteric, often deep explanations of how the show was divided into nine sections, or "expressions of in-betweeness," as described in the exhibition brochure. Not that I didn't get the curatorial statement or that it was as hard to understand as algebra, but the show is visually arresting from the moment you enter the gallery flooded by fluorescent tube lights, and when your jaw drops in awe, you are most likely to roll that brochure and tuck it under your arm.

I mean this with the utmost reverence, this exhibit is so amazing that you will grasp the beauty in the expression, "WTF?!"

I will not even try to describe the clothes as I won't say anything that has not already been said. Let the photos reveal the story.

Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, through September 4, 2017.
